@ronen and @rcjohnso in potentially the best picture I’ve ever taken. Which seems all too fitting.

Still… Austin is to America what New Orleans is to The Universe. That’s why it doesn’t show up on this map, because it’s too EPIC.
So stop with your piddly arguments. And we’d love to have you in New Orleans, where you too can create [something] more signifcant than this map. Just look both ways before you cross the street.

Ha! Agreed. I actually took a pretty epic road trip from Austin to Nawlins with Rachel R.Adler (see: link, link, link).
I’ve been considering addressing this ‘discussion’, despite knowing that the mature thing to do would be to merely ignore it and continue.
But as anyone who knows me can attest, I’ve never been one for being mature ;D
There seems to be a lot of anger here on the rebloggy tumblrverse. Is it possible to engage in thoughtful discussion when people angrily and derisively reblog you? To bring positivity? Let’s see.
I see many people offended by this map. This is funny for a variety of reasons. The first is, I’ve never been one for geographic monogomy. Experience shows that people get angry at others when they see that which angers them in themselves- I imagine most of the frustration expressed in reblogs comes from people frustrated with their own geographic monogomy.
The incredibly irony of this post is its context: I’m about to embark on a cross country roadtrip with friends. Two of my best friends recently (and separately) moved to Colorado, and I wanted to visit them, but we weren’t sure if Colorado was between our starting point and our end point.
“Is Colorado on the way?”
To show how ignorant I am about the map of America, I drew this. This is about how ignorant I am. I make no apologies for it.
Here’s a question for you, without looking it up: Is Colorado on the way from New York to Nevada? No cheating.
Why would I know more about the map of the united states? It has no effect on me. I don’t care if Michigan is near Ohio.
How much do you know about the map of the middle east? Africa?
When you go, I’m sure you will educate yourself- as I’m about to learn about America.
I’m sure some resentful Michiganian feels that if I don’t know where Michigan is, I don’t care about them as people. Allow me to address that point: I don’t care about you as people, but for entirely different reasons: I don’t know you.
Yet.
In making awesome pictures and videos, my life has become about finding what’s awesome in every person and about place, and taking a picture of that. I can honestly say, there is no person or place that is boring.
If you’re bored— do something interesting.
This post didn’t accomplish what I intended it to, but I’m posting it anyway, because I wrote it.
I hope you all have an excellent wednesday and smile unexpectedly at least twice.

Last year, I spent my last day in France in a Parisian Emergency Room with Mr. V. My arm survived, but my gun video camera was a casualty.
